Task 11: Option 2 Text-to-Image It is surprising and disappointing that Copilot has failed to generate S&P 500 index performance for the past 30 years which are public and historical data. Based on several attempts, Copilot seems to be good at generating images based on inputted descriptions instead of picking up information from the instruction, find or process the public information and historical data to generate images accordingly. The style of images generated share similarities regarding pixels, colour scheme and styles. Next, I tried a different topic. First attempt is general, second attempt I added 1 year old information. However, the image pops out with 3 boys! Then I put "1 year old" information before twin boys in my instruction. The image showed up alright with toys suitable for one year old babies featuring bright colors. This exercise made me doubt the ability for Copilot to understand human's instruction and different ways to present the same instruc...

ETEC540  Task 7: Mode-bending I use generative AI tool to create a video with audio support for picture description by typing in the list of objects in my bag without giving further details. Within 60 seconds, the tool generates a 44 seconds video just after a click. https://ai.invideo.io/watch/Xs_VBgx2Xnu   With the support of dynamic narrative, combining visual, sound and animation, the process of transmedia vividly conveys the idea and automatically delivers the audience the message of "what's in my bag". It is obvious that v ideos can capture attention more than pictures and hold viewers' interest longer, which is beneficial for marketing and educational content. Videos can present more information in a shorter time frame through visuals, audio, and text, making complex ideas easier to understand compared with static photo. This echoes the New London Group's idea who emphasizes the importance of multiliteracies in education. L iteracy extends beyond traditiona...

ETEC 533 e-folio Assignment 1: Framing Issue My first touch of technology in classroom My first touch of keyboard happened when I was a primary school student at year 3, that was mid 1990s where computer was just introduced to Asia. The primary school I attended was an international private school in Shanghai, China whose teaching resources and gadgets were advanced if compared with other local schools or public school.  My first time experience for basic programming is DOS system,  Disk Operating System, when i was in elementary school. DOS is a family of computer operating systems that were widely used in the early days of personal computing.  DOS operates in a command-line interface, meaning users interact with the system by typing commands rather than using a graphical user interface. It lays the foundation of basic programming logic in a black and white interface and  machine learning โ€“ we learn how to use DOS system to make a simple snake eating game....
ETEC 540   Task 6: An emoji story ๐ŸŽฅ: ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜จ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ๐Ÿ˜” ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ‘งโžก๏ธ๐Ÿง’ ๐Ÿง ๐ŸŒ€ ๐Ÿ˜„โค๏ธ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’œ ๐Ÿ”„๐Ÿค” ๐ŸŒŸโœจ ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’ฌ ๐ŸŽ‰โค๏ธ ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ’– Yes I started with the title of the movie as it is relatively easy to visualize the key messages of the movie by emoji and this is on top of my head out of all movies I saw in 2024 when comes to this task. The title and plot is not by direct translation, word by word, for the title of the movie but summarizes key features/characters of the movie. The plot of the movie is relatively abstract yet the whole movie is about visualize the emotions of human being. The key challenges I found when doing the plot part is it is tough to use emoji to describe abstract storylines. Emojis can convey basic emotions or concepts but may lack the nuance and detail needed to fully describe complex plot points or character development. Many emojis have multiple interpretations, which can lead to confusion about the intended meaning. For example, a heart can symbolize love, friendship, or even...

ETEC 540 Task 2: Does language shape the way we think? [11:35] Dr. Boroditsky mentions top 5 nouns in English out of which time ranks the first. It is almost the default setting for advertisement that people would read from left to right as most languages in the world, the sequence for alphabet is from left to right.  The example of baby products for Nestle is a typical and interesting example to remind us how language would impact the way we do almost everything in life. For English speaker, reading from left to right is the setting for English that's why English speaker, or the audience of the majority of the advertisement is presumably reader from left to right. The structure of a language can affect time. [11:42] Dr Boroditsky mentions normally people point forward as future, point backward or behind the body as past.  The structure of a language can affect spatial relationship. [18:20] Dr Boroditsky mentions teaching people talk in new way will reshape how people t...

ETEC 540: What's in your bag? As probably one of the few MET members who comes from non-education academic background, being an educator has always been my dream since young. Born and raised in Shanghai, China, I moved to Hong Kong to start my career in 2009 and have been working in finance industry for over 15 years since college graduation. Last April, during MET course, I successfully delivered twin boys who brought overwhelming joy, excitement and challenges to the family. So now I am a proud mom, full time employee for one of the world renown investment banks and a MET student! Photo on the left is a recent photo taken during Xmas time in Hong Kong. My lovely boys are now officially 9 months old! Taking a look in my daily bag, I have been tried to keep things as simple as possible, and prefer a neat style that helps me keep important things handy. Calculator is for work as my job function requests me to do simple maths when meeting clients but need 4 decimal places so I carry...
